Spookathon 2025: Innovation meets imagination at Game Lounge

This Halloween, the Game Lounge team turned up for Spookathon 2025 - our very own hackathon initiative that brought ideas, energy, and just the right amount of spooky fun to the office.

Sponsored by Lovable, the AI-driven platform helping companies unlock innovation from within, Spookathon was a one-day internal challenge designed to inspire fresh thinking. Using Lovable’s AI tools, participants formed teams, brainstormed, and built their concepts in record time – all while adding a little Halloween flair to their pitches.

Now, grab your popcorn and check out our Spookathon video below, and experience the buzzing Game Lounge energy, and the brilliant minds behind this year’s scariest-good ideas.

To kick off the event, Game Lounge’s Head of AI and innovation, Jessi Frey, led a thrilling training session that set the tone for the day. From demystifying Lovable’s features to encouraging participants to “trick or treat” themselves to bold ideas, Jessi’s session helped transform a regular workday into a cauldron bubbling with innovation.

26 Innovators and 15 Ideas

In true hackathon spirit, 26 brave souls from across Game Lounge joined the challenge, forming teams that brewed up 15 unique ideas. From gamified experiences to smart internal tools, the ideas reflected the incredible talent and creativity of our people.

Each team had just a few hours to bring their ideas to life, sketching, testing, and refining before submitting their final projects to our panel of judges. The competition was fierce (in the best way possible), and the results? Absolutely fang-tastic.

Judges and the wicked criteria

A huge shoutout goes to our expert judges – Aurelie Rigodin, Keith Geary, and Michele Schembri – who courageously took on the daunting task of evaluating every project. Armed with sharp eyes and an appetite for creativity, they looked for:

Originality – How unique was the idea?

Future potential – Could it shape upcoming product developments?

Attention to detail – Was it well-crafted and clear?

Fun factor – Did it bring a smile, a laugh, or a little Halloween magic?

Their verdict? “We were amazed by how much could be done in such a short time!” said Aurelie. “The energy, the teamwork, and the creativity were off the charts.”

Meet the frightfully brilliant finalists

After careful deliberation (and a few pumpkin-spice debates), the judges revealed the Top 5 Spookathon Finalists:

Luana Farrugia

Ian Wright

Victoria Sansome

● Jason Attard

Nitisha Upadhye & Yiannis Mercouris

These finalists will now showcase their concepts during the GL Synergy Showcase, where the ultimate winner will be crowned.

Why Lovable made it possible

Spookathon was powered by Lovable, a platform that helps companies spark creativity from within. Lovable enables teams to launch AI-generated internal hackathons and innovation platforms, making it easy to collect ideas, build prototypes, and track progress, all through a beautifully simple AI dashboard.

With over 500,000 makers using Lovable to bring their ideas to life, we were thrilled to use it for our own internal innovation challenge. The platform made organising, collaborating, and judging ideas seamless, letting our teams focus on what they do best: creating.

Until next time

As the digital cobwebs settle and our pumpkins fade, the spirit of Spookathon will live on. The creativity, collaboration, and innovation we witnessed were nothing short of magical.

A massive thank-you to everyone who participated, judged, and cheered from the sidelines. You made this year’s Spookathon a hauntingly good success.

Happy Halloween, and remember that innovation is never too spooky when it’s powered by Lovable!

Hear it from the participants

Jason Attard, Director of CX & Optimisation, recalled the event as “The Spookathon gave me an amazing chance to imagine what the affiliate site of the future could look like by digging into behavioural data. I am always cooking up new ideas, and getting to validate them through Vibe Coding was such a rewarding experience as I managed to create something that would normally take weeks in just a single day!”

Victoria Sansome, Internal Product Operations Manager, said, “Loved it, Jessi! Super fun hackathon! Thanks for organising! I enjoyed building my affiliate site of the future, turning my idea into a working prototype in hours and letting my imagination run free. Really pleased with the result. It was a perfect practice for testing bold ideas quickly. I am excited to use Vibe Coding for more projects.”

Talayeh Ghofrani, Senior Creative Designer enjoyed the hackathon and noted, “Tried Vibe Coding with Lovable and it felt like building a tiny Death Star out of LEGO, equal parts chaos and delight. It sparked fresh ideas and I actually shipped them myself. I did have a few “I might toss this laptop into space” moments, but every win felt great. Overall, super fun, a little spicy, and I’m ready for more.
