Game Lounge Career Spotlight: Charlene Vella

Starting as an Office Coordinator in a company of just 35 employees, Charlene has risen through the ranks to become Head of Vibe & Comms, shaping not only her own career but also the very identity of Game Lounge.  Her journey is a masterclass in taking initiative, driving change, and making things happen.
The start of a Game Lounge journey

Charlene’s journey at Game Lounge began when she was seeking an administrative role during her studies. Drawn by Game Lounge’s company culture and the promise of career progression, she applied to be the Office Coordinator for the company’s offices in Malta, and soon found herself managing office operations, administration, business travel, and events.

While studying Business and Administration at the University of Malta, her path took an unexpected but exciting turn. She was drawn to the subject of Employer Branding, and quickly saw a gap: Game Lounge’s social media presence was fragmented, focusing more on casino brands.

Rather than waiting for someone else to fix it, she took over the company’s social media channels, laying the groundwork for Game Lounge’s employer brand presence.

Shaping her own path & taking leaps.

Charlene didn’t wait for opportunities to come to her; she seized them. In her day-to-day work at Game Lounge, she constantly looked for ways to make an impact.

As Game Lounge grew, so did Charlene’s role. Within a couple of years, she was promoted to Employer Branding & Vibe Manager, and began building a larger team. Her dedication to professional development led her to obtain an Employer Branding certification, which further fueled her passion for shaping the company’s image.

In June 2022, Charlene was promoted to Head of Vibe & Employer Branding, leading a team and overseeing various responsibilities. She showcased her vision and leadership by proposing a company rebrand, identifying the need for a clear brand identity with a mission, vision statement, and core values. This initiative, approved by company leadership and founders, highlights Charlene’s ability to see the bigger picture and drive significant change.

Charlene has consistently taken on major challenges, demonstrating exceptional resilience and leadership; she successfully led the comprehensive rebrand project, a massive undertaking that involved creating brand and visual identities, refurbishing the office, designing new materials, launching a new website, and updating all platforms. “Looking back, I’m not sure how I managed it all!” Charlene says.

“Of course, I didn’t do it alone, but with the help of my team and various rather teams across the company. I collaborated with most of the departments and worked closely with leadership throughout the process.” she explains. She credits Jason Attard and the creative team as key players in bringing the rebrand to life, saying, “Jason is a truly talented colleague from whom I learned a great deal.”

Charlene’s approach has always been hands-on; she treats the company as her own, taking initiative to drive improvements and elevate standards at every level.

In 2024, as Game Lounge’s leadership put a stronger focus on marketing and communications, Charlene was appointed to lead the newly created Marketing & Communications department consisting of the Vibe & Comms team.

Notable challenges mentioned were organising company trips to Cancun for 80 employees and to Halkidiki for over 200 employees, which required extensive planning, collaboration, and problem-solving.

In developing the Marketing & Communications department, Charlene has also fostered strong relationships with other teams, where she has learned a great deal from talented colleagues, reflecting Game Lounge’s commitment to making remote working work even when its team is spread across the globe.

While still in the testing phase, this trial aims to enhance productivity and well-being, something Charlene and the team are eager to explore.

When asked about her biggest “win” at Game Lounge so far, Charlene points to creating the brand identity, a testament to her vision and impact.
